The new Ford Fiesta is almost here with clear indications from Ford that it plans to launch its flagship sedan in India next month (June 2011), and if our estimates are right the pricing of this sleek and sexy sedan will be around Rs 7-9 lakh
If the Figo was Ford’s big story in 2010, the next-gen Fiesta could play the same role in 2011. Good petrol and diesel engine options, sturdy build and great handling can be expected very easily given Ford’s past record, but the new Fiesta will be all about the image. Sleek and sexy from the outside, imaginative and youthful from the inside, and a hoot to drive in general, this is one car to look forward to.
This Fiesta in India will be offered with the option of a diesel engine under its bonnet and this could be a further adaptation of the present day 1.6-litre Duratorq, which is a proven performer. There could also be another petrol motor, a slightly smaller 1.4-litre unit but that has as yet not been confirmed but then he right choice of powerplant for the new car has to be the 1.6-litre petrol engine (the same as does duty in the present day Fiesta) but which now utilizes twin independent variable camshaft timing to liberate more horses from the same displacement.
The added power and torque is matched with new smile inducing response levels as the car displays an urge to sprint forward at the slightest caress of the throttle pedal and given its optimum footprint, the strong levels of grip and handling mark this baby out as probably the most fun-on-wheels offering fromFord in India.
Equipped with 120 bhp motor, the new Fiesta will have both a manual 5-speed gearbox as well as the 6-speed PowerShift automatic transmission.
