With the Kawasaki Ninja 650R launch around the corner and the Hyosung GT650R already plying in the market with its first mover advantage, which one of these two would be your choice considering both the bikes will be very closely priced. Wait a minute. Are we forgetting something? Well, let's bring the Harley Davidson 883 SuperLow into the fray as well! Which one out of the three would be your pick?
Garware Motors stirred up the market by entering into the 600cc segment with the Hyosung GT650R and offering it at a competitive price of just Rs. 4.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It was a welcome respite to the Indian bikers who were on a lookout for affordable superbike experience. Definitely a looker and a head-turning machine, the Hyosung GT650R completely justified the price-tag with its powerful V-Twin motor and its sporty dynamics quite similar to the race-replica machines. A few minor built quality issues and some vibrations at higher rpm but otherwise a pretty decent product especially in a market where there is nothing to choose from at such a tempting price-point.
Not anymore though. With Bajaj Auto bringing in the Kawasaki Ninja 650R this week, things are looking tough for the Hyosung GT650R. Especially if the speculated pricing of the bigger Ninja is to be believed, then it is certainly a steal for that cost. But the Ninja is not an all-out sports model like the Hyosung. It is a more chilled out and easy going motorcycle that is suitable to a larger number of riders but does not have track scorching credentials neither does it have a very sporty posture of a race machine like the GT650. But then again the Ninja is a very practical motorcycle that can do a lot of things for a lot of riders than just look fancy or post a quick laptime. The Ninja will be comfy over long distances as well as for daily commutes and at the same time good enough for weekend sport-riders, thanks to oodles of torque that it makes. The riding position and ergonomics on the Ninja too are suitable to riders of all shapes and sizes unlike on the Hyosung GT650R which can only accommodate riders with rather tiny physiques.
And then of course there is the Harley-Davidson SuperLow 883 at about the same price-point as the Hyosung and the Kawasaki however the appeal is far too different and is aimed for cruiser-lovers. But if we consider an average Joe Indian biker looking for a big bike experience more than a purpose-built motorcycle, can he consider the Harley-Davidson SuperLow 883 instead of the Hyosung or the Kawasaki? H-D is definitely a bigger and more popular brand than Hyosung and it has more stylish appeal than the big Ninja. And even though the SuperLow 883 lacks in dimensions and size, it more than makes up for it with that iconic moniker on its fuel tank. Considering that all three motorcycles are closely matched with regards to their pricing, which one of the three would be the most preferred set of wheels in our country? Any guesses?
