Kawasaki Ninja 650R Launched

High-capacity bikes are slowing pouring into Indian streets and Bajaj Auto and Kawasaki's launch of the Kawasaki Ninja 650R gives yet another reason for the celebrations to continue.

Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Mr. Yoshiro Segawa, Director (designate), India Kawasaki
Motors and Mr. Eric Vas, President, New Projects, Bajaj Auto Ltd. with the newly launched Kawasaki Ninja 650R.

Among the few premium sports bike manufacturer to bring in some heat into the Indian two-wheeler segment, Kawasaki set the pulse for performance biking in India, when it launched its 250 cc Kawasaki Ninja in 2009.

It has now moved a notch higher and finally brought in a higher capacity 650cc version of its Ninja series, known to the biking world as the Kawasaki Ninja 650R. With a competitive pricing of Rs 4.57 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi and Pune), the Ninja is definitely going to give its immediate and only competitor in India at the moment, the Hyosung GT650R, which was introduced by Korean bike-maker Hyosung Motors in collaboration with Garware Motors at a price tag of 4.57 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Regarded as an all-round 600cc sports motorcycle with style and performance well suited for both city riding and long commutes, the Ninja 650 R is powered by a four-stroke, DDHC 8 valve, Parallel Twin engine, that dishes out a maximum power 72 PS @ 8500 RPM  and 66 Nm of Torque @ 7000 RPM.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto said “We conceived Bajaj Probiking 6 years ago with the objective of making it the default destination for motorbike enthusiasts looking for looking for premium and performance bikes. The Ninja 650R is the next step in realizing that objective.” He added, “The Kawasaki Ninja 250R has been a success with 1500 of these speed machines sold to date. It is now joined by its larger sibling to rule the roads.”

A Diamond High – tensile steel frame, a liquid cooled engine, triple petal disc brakes and damped handlebars for unexhaustive riding even on bad road conditions are some of the unique features of this sports bike, making it well suited for Indian road conditions.

Available exclusively at all BAJAJ Probiking showrooms in 30 cities, the Kawasaki Ninja 650R will be backed with Probiking service capabilities and spare parts availability.

The 649cc, parallel twin motor makes an impressive 72bhp and 66Nm of torque and can run on regular 91 octane fuel that's available at our petrol pumps. In fact it's impressive enough to clock a full 100kph in just over four seconds. The best part is the fact that Kawasaki makes owning a properly fast bike much easier for a whole lot of people who can't quite afford the litre class superbikes and want something more than just another 250. Kawasaki hasn't announced any price revision for the Ninja 250R, but we expect to hear about that real soon. Till then, if you have the extra cash, get in line for the Ninja 650R.
